Final Fantasy IV

Secret of Mana

Not the deepest Squaresoft game by any measure, Secret of Mana was still a lot of fun. The fact that it could be played with three people was just great. It had a fighting system that required a little bit of skill, but made a little more sense than the standard "line up and jump forward/back" or "line up and step forward/back" system of combat. A fun time for 3 players.

Final Fantasy III (VI in Nihon)

This game had a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it was wasted. The ideas behind the game (a technological world with low magic) would have been very innovative and interesting. What came out (a basically medieval world with high magic) was not. Also, every mistake possible was made by the plot. For the first part of the game, it is contrived. For the second, the plot completely falls apart and leaves the player unentertained. It's also made too easy by the fact that the espers make everybody omnipotent spellcasters. It tried to be epic, but ended up laughable.
